It’s all just a Story~ a traveling art show

IMG_7376

So I was invited along with a plethora of amazing artists to create a 24"x30" painting for an art show that sprinkles a bit of magic over some really great stories, to bring them to life once more, in art form. As I dropped my art off at the Oak Lawn Branch of the Dallas library system, I got to meet (for the second time) the mastermind behind the curtain and artist extraordinaire, Robb Conover. His eyes sparkled as he relayed his vision and how it was coming into being. There are so many people who are excited too, including KERA, the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Library and a few other media outlets. They should be too, the array of artists and books chosen are both fascinating and truly creative works.

The paintings are going to be part of a year long tour for the Dallas library. They will be going to all the branches for month long stints, including the opening of the newest library at White Rock Lake, next month. This is a truly splendid experience for both the artists and the patrons to the library as it brings a great amount of exposure to the arts and reading.

There is going to be an artists reception on March 8 from 6-7:30 at 4100 Cedar Springs Road, Dallas Tx. 75219. 214-670-1359. There will be wine and hors d'oevre.

For the kids, there will be a FREE fun day of events including face painting, games, story telling and general rebel-rousing! It will be next Saturday, March 10th from Noon to 3. The artists are being asked to dress up as storybook characters, so you know it will be a visual smorgasbord! Refreshments and giveaways will be provided.

The Oak Lawn Library is at 4100 Cedar Springs at the corner of Cedar Springs and Knight. For more information, contact Ray Sablack or Barbara Carr at (214) 670-1359

Here is a sneak peek, but not everything is here, and it's so much better to see it all in person. Hope to see you there!

Painting of the week- Pinstripes and rust

Pinstripes and Rust-Kerian Massey
Pinstripes and Rust-Kerian Massey

I just finished this painting last night for the art show this weekend. I love painting old rusty cars.

I just finished this painting last night. The man who owns this car refurbished it in a way that preserved the beautiful patina the rust left on the car. He sanded it smooth, just the way it was, so that the paint and rust were level and the he matte clear coated it. After that he pinstriped it and gave it it's name "Ratrod." It was love at first sight, from it's gleaming cherry rims to it's custom non-paint job.  Coolness encapsulated on 4 wheels.

This will be on display at the Flying Fish gallery and I will also be listing it on my website and Etsy.

For the love of shoes…

There are so many shoe paintings, artists and designs I just had showcase them here.

Amazing real shoes that are pretty much walking art!

Amazing real shoes that are pretty much walking art!

These shoes are real and with a very pretty price tag, but oh...if I were Richard Branson's wife, I'd have me a pair!

Some shoes are all business, but not these!

Now these are so creepy....
"No sir, I don't know who shot these two rattlesnakes, but they looked like they'd make a good pair of shoes."

Here's a pair I painted myself. Did I mention that I love shoes?

A time piece

There is a certian mystery to clocks and time. I find watchmakers and timekeepers incredibly astute to the world around them. Thier minds ticking in a rhythmic way, keeping sync with nature, the sun and the stars. There are monuments and instruments that are so precise that error is kept in milliseconds. I'm lucky if I can keep time within quarter hour increments! With all that said, there is also a mysterious beauty to these time pieces.
My next painting will reflect a clockwork of ideas. I hope to wake people to the depth and detail in timekeeping.
